Female Tech Entrepreneurs Advocate for Gender Diversity and Equity in Technology Sector
Prominent Female Entrepreneurs in the Technology Industry are actively promoting the Inclusion of more women in the field, asserting that their participation will drive better Policies and foster Innovation within the Ecosystem.
They are encouraging women to pursue Tech roles, become Problem Solvers, and provide Valuable Resources to Support newcomers.
These Insights were shared during the “Embrace Equity: Building Digital Skills for Life” webinar Organized by Stanbic IBTC Women-in-Tech. Adaora Nwobodo, a Software Engineer at Microsoft, highlighted the potential benefits of diversity in the Tech Industry, emphasizing that it could lead to more inclusive and superior Products and Solutions.
She stated, “The tech Industry is a dynamic and rapidly expanding sector that plays a crucial Role in Shaping our World.
However, it faces a significant diversity Challenge, with Women, minorities, and marginalized groups being underrepresented.”
Folake Owodunni, co-founder of Emergency Response Africa, shed light on the distinction between equity and equality.
She explained that equity Involves providing a level playing field for Individuals from diverse backgrounds to maximize their Talents.
“Equity recognizes that people do not start from the same point and necessitates the Provision of Resources to help them achieve equal outcomes.
It is about creating an equal playing field,” she emphasized.
Benedicta Nwagwu, Acting Lead of Innovation, Digital Involvement, and Analytics at Stanbic IBTC, further stressed the significance of Equity, arguing that the fair distribution of Resources would enable everyone to fully unleash their potential and attain equal outcomes.
