The Federal Government has officially terminated its contract with Julius Berger for the rehabilitation of the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano dual carriageway, citing non-performance and refusal to accept revised contract terms. The contract, initially valued at ₦155.7 billion in 2018, had ballooned to over ₦797.2 billion due to variations and augmentations . After negotiations, the government reduced the contract sum to ₦740.7 billion, but Julius Berger allegedly failed to accept the offer or mobilize to the site[2).
Reasons for Termination:
- Non-compliance with reviewed cost and scope
- Refusal to remobilize to site
- Failure to accept revised contract terms

The Minister of Works, Engr. Nweze David Umahi, expressed disappointment at Julius Berger’s delay, stating it caused untold hardship to road users and tarnished the government’s image. The termination aims to alleviate Nigerians’ suffering and ensure the project’s completion.
