Minister of Agriculture Abubakar Kyari has revealed that the Federal Government is set to provide a substantial 50% Subsidy to Wheat Farmers during the upcoming dry Season Farming.
This move aims to Significantly enhance Wheat Production within the Country.
Following an Inspection of various Seed Wheat Productions in Kano, Kyari emphasized the Government’s firm commitment to Increasing Wheat Production during dry Season Farming, with the goal of both Local Consumption and Foreign export.
Kyari further highlighted Jigawa State’s significant Contribution to the Wheat Farming Initiative, providing 40,000 Hectares of land to support the Project.
He noted that the Federal Government has allocated a total of 70,000 Hectares for Wheat Farming this year, aiming to ensure Self-sufficiency and reduce Dependence on Wheat Imports.
The Minister stressed the Importance of securing enough Seeds to cover the allocated Hectares, thereby reducing the need for Costly Wheat Imports that strain the Nation’s Foreign reserves.
He underscored the Government’s strategic plan to achieve Self-sufficiency in Wheat Production within the next 4-5 years, consequently ending the Importation of Wheat Seeds and Enhancing Food Security in the Country.
During his visit to the National Wheat Council Warehouses at Sharada, AA Albasu Grains Company, and Alyumna Seeds Production Company, Kyari expressed his satisfaction with the progress made in Local Wheat Production and emphasized its Pivotal role in achieving Food Security in the Country.
