The Federal Government has established a 15-member Inter-Ministerial Committee to oversee the preparations for the Country’s 63rd Independence Day Celebration.
Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, will lead this Committee.
The Committee’s Members include key Government Officials such as the Ministers of Information and Culture, Interior, Finance, and Foreign Affairs, as well as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), National Security Adviser, Inspector-General of Police, Director-General of the Department of State Services, and the Commander of the Guards Brigade.
Additional Members consist of Permanent Secretaries from various Government Offices.
During the Inauguration Event, Senator Akume emphasized that the Committee’s primary role is to Plan, Organize, and Execute approved activities suitable for Nigeria’s 63rd Independence Anniversary Celebration, scheduled for October 1, 2023.
This Celebration provides an opportunity to reflect on the Contributions and Sacrifices of National Heroes and Heroines who fought for Nigeria’s Independence from Colonial rule.
Additionally, it allows the Government to showcase its Achievements in addressing the Nation’s numerous Social and Economic challenges.
The specific activities Planned for the Celebration will be Finalized by the Inter-Ministerial Committee, which will also Coordinate Sub-committees responsible for Events such as a World Press Briefing, symposium/Public lecture, Juma’at Service, Presidential Broadcast, Church Service, and Parade.
The Celebration is seen as an Occasion for the Government to highlight its Accomplishments in tackling various Challenges faced by the Nation.
