During a Meeting with the Management of the Federal Capital Territory Administration and the Federal Capital Development Authority, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike declared a prohibition on Street Trading within the Federal Capital.
Wike justified the decision by highlighting that Street Vendors, particularly Corn Sellers, often dispose of waste haphazardly, contributing to Security challenges.
Wike emphasized that such Vendors Inadvertently aid Criminals by acting as Informants.
He stated, “Criminals come to buy and use the opportunity to Spy and give Information to Criminals.
We must clear street hawkers.”
Furthermore, he directed his attention toward the Issue of Unauthorized Structures and shanties, asserting that they would be Demolished regardless of the Stature of the Individuals Involved.
Wike concluded, “Development Control is a serious Crisis Area we have to stop.
Why are there Illegal Structures and Shanties everywhere? We will Demolish any Illegal Structure.
No matter how highly placed, the Structure will come down.”
