Career experts have urged students of the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, to embrace opportunities in any career they might find themselves.

The experts identified career diversification as a key strategy for achieving excellence in today’s fast-evolving world.

According to a Monday statement, the call came during the TEDxCMUL 2025 event held at Old Great Hall on the campus.

Under the theme “A Masterclass in Excellence,” the event featured professionals from various industries, who encouraged students to look beyond conventional career boundaries.

The lead organiser, Jesulewami Oreweme, emphasised that “Excellence is not a one-time perfection but constant progress. It is not something extra but a conscious choice we can all make.”

A medical doctor turned digital entrepreneur, Dr Onyii Azode, advised the students to remain open to multiple interests.

Don’t limit yourself to one path. Excellence comes from the range and depth of your interests. Be bold in pursuing diverse careers,” she said.

A former chairman at PAL Pensions, Funso Doherty, also highlighted the importance of civic engagement in restoring excellence.

Fashion and entertainment mogul, Sola Oyebade, known as Mr Mahogany, stressed creativity’s role in shaping industries and pushing boundaries.

A commercial pilot, 19-year-old Zino Mario-Ghae, said, “No dream is impossible. Excellence is about daring to start and persist.”

Dr Bola Montana, who balances medicine with fashion influencing, noted that “Excellence is rooted in consistency, authenticity, and growth. It’s about being true to yourself while evolving.”

Social entrepreneur, McEva Temofe, emphasised values as the foundation for success.

“Make excellence your standard,” he said, adding, “Humility and loyalty will carry you to outstanding achievements.”

During a panel discussion, Dunsin Bankole, Toluwanimi Fagunleka, Omolara Sanni, and Adetuyi Adedipo also urged students to develop versatile skills and adapt to emerging opportunities.
