The ex-member representing Akamkpa/Biase Federal Constituency and former Peoples Democratic Party governorship aspirant, Daniel Asuquo has defected from the Labour Party to the All Progressives Congress.

Speaking during the grand reception ceremony organised by APC on Saturday at the party’s Secretariat in Calabar, Asuquo, popularly known as Dansuki, disclosed that Cross River is governed by God’s special people, adding that the party will sweep all polling units during the 2027 general elections.

He commended Governor Bassey Otu for his People’s first administration, adding that his commitment, hard work, openness, receptivity and generosity to the yearnings of his people endeared him to the party.

He assured that the Obedient movement from the Labour Party which was under his watch has now collapsed into APC in the state, in alignment with other key defectors from PDP, Governor Otu and President Bola Tinibu are assured of 500,000 votes in the 2027 elections.

The President will for the first time in Cross River State win the election overwhelmingly. With the Obedient movement collapsed into APC and with my friends from PDP, we are sure of 500,000 votes for Governor Otu and President Tininu in 2027”, he said.

Asuquo further stated that his decision to join the APC is to unite with Governor Bassey Otu-led administration to move the state higher with more economic power and potential.

While applauding the APC leaders and stakeholders for the grand reception, he stressed that politics is service to humanity, describing the gesture as a moment of service and payback to his people.

It is very necessary to know that Politics is a service. I present myself for service. Service to pay back our people, especially all those who have worked with me. I thank the APC leaders for their support.

This support will transform into an electoral victory. I ask that you carry us along, join us in the process, and I want to assure you that better days are ahead”, he remarked.

In his remarks, the APC State Chairman, Alphonsus Eba, applauded the ex-lawmaker for his bold decision especially for passing through due process and fulfilling all the constitutional requirements from ward level to become a full member of the party.

Eba while tasking him to be instrumental to the party, said, “We have chosen this day by the approval and consent of our leader; Governor Bassey Otu, represented by his Deputy, Peter Odey, to receive you into this party.

I want to appreciate the due process you have followed. You have gone through the ward level, and you have made your intent known.

You have followed the due process by registering in your poling unit and ward. You have become a bonafide member of our party,” Eba remarked
