The ex-Commonwealth plus British Light Heavyweight boxing champion, Peter Oboh, has expressed sadness over the death of Liverpool football star, Digo Jota, who died with his younger brother in a car crash in Spain yesterday.

Also, Oboh condoled with the family of Bishop Gilbert Juma Deya, who was also killed in a car crash “thousands of miles away in Kenya, East Africa, a few weeks ago”.

Peter Oboh said the late Bishop Deya, in his golden days in the late 90s and early 2000, pastored one of the biggest churches in the United Kingdom, UK.

Recall that Diogo Jota and his brother died near the town of Zamora, Spain, where the Lamborghini they were travelling in suffered a tyre blowout while overtaking another vehicle.

The car veered off the road and burst into flames. Both died at the scene.

The 28-year-old Portugal international had undergone lung surgery and was told by doctors to avoid air travel. So, he and his brother opted to make their way to the UK by road and sea.

Reacting, Peter Oboh said: “These deaths are so devastating. But the truth is some kind of untimely death that can be caused by a car accident. So the cooperation by drivers can reduce the percentage of these accidents.

The truth is prevention is always better than cure. A wise saying has it that ‘We all know to be early to an appointment is always better than to be later to an appointment. But the truth is it is better to be late than to be come the late. We must note that.”
