The Enugu State Government has Introduced the Initial phase of the Transport Infrastructure Project (TIP), unveiling a comprehensive plan that encompasses State-of-the-art bus terminals, transport interchanges, logistics hubs, city gates, and rail stations throughout the Region.
According to a Press Statement personally Issued by the State Commissioner of Transport, Obi Ozor, this Initiative is expected to generate over 11,000 Skilled and Semi-skilled Jobs for the Youth while attracting a Minimum Investment of ₦47.5 billion to the Economy.
The Commissioner highlighted that these Developments align with Governor Peter Mbah’s Vision to Transform and Modernize the Transportation Sector, positioning it as a leading Model in Africa.

The Project draws Inspiration from successful Transportation systems in Dubai and Singapore.
Strategically distributed across key Hubs in the State, the Modern Transport Interchanges and Bus Terminals will include locations such as Enugu Central Station (Holy Ghost), Garki Central Station, Abakpa Central Station, and Nsukka Central Station.
Logistic hubs will be established in Obollo Afor, 9th Mile Corner, and Emene to address existing Infrastructure shortages.
Two iconic “City Gates” at Naira Triangle, Enugu, and 9th Mile, Udi, are planned to enhance aesthetics and Instill a sense of Identity and Pride among Residents.
Additionally, road markings, junction Improvements, and Bus stop upgrades aim to streamline Traffic Management and enhance pedestrian Safety.
Emphasizing the Strategic Position of the Enugu Central Station, which can accommodate millions of Commuters through both Road and Rail Transportation, Commissioner Obi Ozor noted its potential to control 41% of Human traffic in the Southeast.
The Station is expected to facilitate Movement to and from the Second-largest Market in the region (Ogbete Main Market), fostering Intergroup Relations and Economic prosperity.
Addressing concerns about potential Impacts on Stakeholders, such as the Nigerian Railway Corporation, the Commissioner assured that the Governor had engaged major Stakeholders, with plans for compensation and assistance.
The Project is envisioned to address Criminal activities, enhance Security, Improve sanitation, and eliminate current traffic congestion within the Metropolis.
Furthermore, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been Officially signed between the Ministry of Transport and the China Rail and Bridge Company (CRBC), establishing a strategic partnership aimed at creating a 382km rail Infrastructure to boost Integration and Economic prosperity in the Southeast.
Refuting rumors, Obi Ozor clarified that the State Government’s collaboration with the Nigeria Railway Corporation involves Intra-state Operations rather than the Alleged takeover of Railway Properties for Commercial Development.
