Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, presented a budget estimate of ₦605 billion for the 2025 fiscal year to the Edo State House of Assembly on Tuesday. The proposed budget, titled “Budget of Renewed Hope for a Rising Edo,” reflects a 25% increase from the 2024 budget.
Budget Breakdown
- ₦223 billion (37%) is allocated for recurrent expenditure.
- ₦381 billion (63%) is dedicated to capital projects.
Key Areas of Focus
- Road Infrastructure: ₦162 billion is earmarked for road development across the state.
- Education: The governor highlighted the need for improvements across all levels, with a focus on tertiary institutions. A monthly subvention of ₦500 million has been allocated to support Ambrose Ali University, Ekpoma.
- Security: The administration plans to foster peace and harmony within the state, with the procurement of 20 patrol vehicles and the lifting of the ban on the Edo State Vigilante.
- Healthcare: ₦63.9 billion has been allocated to enhance accessibility and affordability of health services, with ₦1.8 billion dedicated to Health Insurance.
- Agriculture: ₦4.5 billion has been proposed for the agricultural sub-sector to strengthen farm mechanization and ensure the safety of farmlands.
