Ahead of the 2023 Nigerian presidential election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured that the results will be declared quickly. During a media briefing in Abuja, INEC Chairman Prof Mahmood Yakubu acknowledged the need for speed and emphasized that the commission is aware of the public’s anxiety to have the results as soon as possible. While the exact timeline remains unclear, Yakubu noted that INEC is committed to concluding the process in a timely manner. The chairman also addressed concerns about potential disruptions caused by a recent cash crunch, stating that INEC has already received the necessary funds from the Central Bank of Nigeria to pay for services that require cash payments. Yakubu confirmed that the process will not suffer any delay as a result of the cash flow issue, noting that most of the procurement for goods and services is done electronically.
