The rulling All Progressive Congress (APC) has lamented the cash and carry Contest for leadership of the 10th National Assembly
In a statement release by the APC north -west zonal office in Kaduna state, salihu Muhammad Lukman observed the disregard for national unity and disrespect for Nigerians, especially from the person’s of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kashim Shettima, being the President -elect and vice president – elect respectively.
Salihu noted that some of the aspiring candidates for the positions of Senate President and speaker of the House of Representatives are neither concerned about the security and well-being of Nigeria nor are they disturbed about factors that could erode the electoral viability of the All Progressive Congress.
The statement further observed that some Muslim aspirants from the North – East are desperately mobilising support in unethical manner without any respect for the party and it’s leadership. The unethical manner includes giving out bribes of bags of rice, sugar and vehicles just to win the seat which has reduced the contest for the leadership of the 10th National Assembly to cash-and-carry.
According to salihu, the situation is both disappointing and worrisome and calls on the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party to be conscious that the APC has already produce two Muslims as President – elect and vice President -elect.
He stressed that any senator aspiring for the position of the Senate President being the number three highest ranking position in federal government, who is a Muslim will not be in the interest of Nigeria.
He noted that chapter 11, section 14(3) of the Nigeria constitution outline that the position of the Government of the Federation or any of it’s agencies and the conduct of it’s affairs shall be carried out in such a manner as to reflect the federal character of Nigeria and the need to promote national unity and also to command national loyalty, thereby ensuring that there shall be no predominance of Persons of from a few ethnic or sectional groups in that Government or in any of it’s agencies.
