A significant development has unfolded in the case of the #EndBadGovernance protesters, as the Federal High Court in Abuja struck out charges against all 119 defendants on Tuesday. The protesters, comprising 76 individuals in the first batch (including 32 minors) and 43 in the second batch, were initially arraigned on Friday, November 1, on charges of treason, inciting mutiny, and other related offenses.
Justice Obiora Egwuatu made the ruling after the counsel to the Attorney General of the Federation, M. D Abubakar, filed an application to take over and discontinue the case. This move comes on the heels of President Bola Tinubu’s directive to the Attorney General to ensure the immediate release of all minors involved in the protests.
The protesters were accused of acting in concert to destabilize the country, committing felony, and treason between July 1 and August 4, 2024. However, with the court’s decision, all charges have been dropped.
