Honourable Blessing Agbebaku Sheriff, member representing Owan West Constituency, has emerged Speaker of the 8th Edo State House of Assembly.
The speaker, while reading his acceptance speech, said he would run an inclusive state house of assembly irrespective of party affiliations.
“Choosing me to lead this house as speaker is a great honour and privilege which bestowed upon me this sense of responsibility and acceptance.
” While I owe many thanks to the Almighty God for this rare privilege for His protection and guidance through out the electioneering process and my emergence as speaker.
“I want to thank you all my great colleagues for given me the role of first amongst equal , Numerous uno and for believing in my capacity and competence as speaker of this 8th Edo state house of assembly.
“I thank the state government, Godwin Obaseki, our great party, PDP no matter great and small with my emergency today.
“I will not take this position for granted.
” I promise to carry all honourable members along irrespective of the political affiliations because together we can make Edo State great again in line with the current trend in the state.
“I commend the speaker and members of the 7th Edo state house of assembly in setting the template in legislative activities. This has put the 8th assembly in the right track”, Agbebaku said.
The speaker also called for the collaboration from the staff of the house of assembly so as to have a smooth legislative sail just as he promised to put the interest of the citizens of the state above his personal interest.
“I also appeal to the staff of the Edo State House of Assembly ably led by the Clerk, Yayah Audu Omogbai to give this 8th house of assembly the needed support to enable us achieve our lofty goals of great people oriented based and resolution titled “Engender Social Economy Betterment of the Populace”.
” Let me assure the people of the state that we as state house of assembly, we will put them first in our functions and oversights as the people are the reasons we are being here as lawmakers.
“We will do our best to help the development of all sectors of the state economy for the betterment of all people.
“Let me assure my colleagues that as a team and with your support, we will introduce far reaching programmes and innovation to put the 8th assembly in a sound footing”, Speaker Agbebaku maintaine
