Super Tuesday in the US happens to be the biggest day of the 2024 election so far, when people in 15 states will vote for which candidate they want to stand for president, so far, Donald Trump is the front-runner to win the Republican nomination, having beaten his rival Nikki Haley in all state contests so far except in Washington DC.

But Haley has so far refused to give up, saying she will stick around until at least until Super Tuesday has concluded.
Biden is likely to win the Democratic nomination, as he is all but uncontested – though last week, he faced a significant protest vote in the Michigan primary due to the war in Gaza.
The 15 states voting today are Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont and Virginia.
The most popular candidate in each state will be awarded a number of delegates by their party. A candidate needs to win a certain number of delegates across the US to get their party’s nomination.
American Samoa – which is a US territory rather than a state – is also holding a Democratic primary contest.
Some states are also holding primary contests for other offices.
In California, voters will pick candidates for the US Senate election in November, while a hotly contested governor’s race is attracting attention in North Carolina.
