The Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has announced a donation of N200 million as intervention funds to communities badly affected by the heavy windstorm that rocked the state.

Announcing the intervention on Sunday during a visit to sympathise with the people of Dass Local Government Area following the devastating windstorm that swept through several communities, the governor noted the extent of damage caused to homes, public buildings, and farmlands.

While assessing the scale of the destruction, he said that the affected communities included Durr, Wandi, Bagel Bundot, and Dass town, saying that they were the places the windstorm destroyed homes and farmlands, leaving many residents in dire need of support.

Mohammad, therefore, directed emergency response teams to expedite relief efforts even as he also sympathised with the Emir of Dass at his palace.

The governor, while also expressing deep sorrow over the destruction caused by the natural disaster, added that “As part of immediate intervention, we will release the sum of N100 million in support of the affected communities.

I equally pledged building materials worth over N100 million to assist in the reconstruction of damaged homes and infrastructure in the affected communities,” he stated.

Mohammed reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to disaster preparedness and pledged to work with the federal government and humanitarian agencies to prevent future occurrences.

He directed the local government council to plant shelter belts in the areas so as to help prevent future occurrences.

Earlier, while briefing the governor, the Chairman of Dass Local Government Council, Muhammad Jibo, commended the swift response of the state government.

He highlighted the efforts made by the local council immediately after the disaster, including initial assessments and mobilisation of local resources to support the affected persons ruined by the gale of windstorm that rocked the state.
