The Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC Taskforce for revenue monitoring, has arrested 13 fake revenue collectors.
Mr Yunusa Yusuf, the task force Chairman disclosed this during a press briefing at the council Secretariat.
According to him, the suspects were arrested at different locations during operations carried out by the task force and among the 13 were mostly youths between 25 and 40 years.
He, therefore warned taxpayers not to pay cash to anyone parading as AMAC representative or to any account that is not the one from the council, that anyone who does that will have to pay double to the appropriate account whenever the task force comes for monitoring.
Yusuf also stressed that business operators in AMAC should not pay consultants on behalf of the council, as consultants working for AMAC always receive a percentage of their payment as agreed upon with the council.
He further added that the AMAC will continue it operation to get rid of the illegal revenue collectors in the Area because they are depriving residents of basic amenities like portable water, good road, better health care and other amenities which the generated revenues are meant for.
Yusuf also noted that while okada riders and motorists who buy tickets of N100 or N200 and pay in cash are exempted from the restriction, the task force will still monitor and arrest those who print receipts bearing AMAC with the intent to defraud the public.
“We will not rest until we sanitize the system and prosecute those involved, no matter who they are,” He said
