In a bid to Combat Illegal Oil Refining activities, the Air Component of Operation Delta Safe launched a series of Air Strikes in the Cawthorne Channel and Bille areas, located in the Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State.
These Operations resulted in the Successful destruction of over 30 active Illegal Oil Refining Sites.
During the Missions, the Nigerian Air Force targeted Illegal Refining sites, storage tanks, reservoirs, and even Cotonou boats that were Suspected of Siphoning Crude Oil from a Flow Station in the Region.
This Crackdown on Illegal Oil Refining has been ongoing for the past two months, Primarily in the Cawthorne Channel and Bille areas, which have been Notorious for Oil Theft and Unauthorized Oil refining activities.
Over this period, Numerous Illegal Refining sites have been identified and subsequently destroyed by the joint efforts of the land, Maritime, and Air Components of Operation Delta Safe.
These Operations are part of the Nigerian Government’s Broader Strategy to Curb Illegal activities that have been causing Environmental Damage and Economic losses in the Niger Delta region.
The Destruction of Illegal Refining sites and associated Infrastructure is aimed at deterring Individuals and Criminal Networks Involved in these Unlawful activities.
