Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has sworn in the newly elected chairmen of the 17 local government areas (LGAs) in the state, tasking them with the vision of “Abia first” to drive socio-economic transformation in their respective LGAs ¹. The swearing-in ceremony took place on Monday, following the local government elections held last Saturday.

- Aba North: Timothy Iheke (ZLP)
- Aba South: Anyanwu Obilor (ZLP)
- Arochukwu: Okereke Ezearo (ZLP)
- Bende: Uwabunkeonye Bassey (ZLP)
- Ikwuano: Dr. Anthony Nwaubani (ZLP)
- Isialangwa North: Innocent Uruakpa (ZLP)
- Isialangwa South: Nnadozie Nwaogwugwu (ZLP)
- Isukwuato: Chinedu Ekeke (ZLP)
- Obingwa: Maxwell Nwadike (ZLP)
- Ohafia: Eleanya Oju-Kalu (ZLP)
- Osisioma: Chidi Christian Agu (YPP)
- Ugwunagbo: Ihenacho Chiemela Nwagbara (YPP)
- Ukwa East: Chibunna Akara (ZLP)
- Ukwa West: Pastor Dike Nwankwo (ZLP)
- Umuahia North: Smart Ihuoma (ZLP)
- Umuahia South: Chinwendu Enwereuzo (ZLP)
- Umunneochi: Sunday Afuruike (ZLP)
In his speech, “Development and A New Philosophy of Leadership,” Otti emphasized the importance of addressing basic community problems, such as access to water, healthcare, education, and security ¹. He urged the chairmen to prioritize these issues and ensure measurable improvements in living conditions within the next six months.

The Abia State Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) had earlier presented certificates of return to the newly elected chairmen, with 15 from the ZLP and two from the YPP ¹. ABSIEC Chairman Professor George Chima encouraged the chairmen to align with Governor Otti’s vision for the state, emphasizing the need for holistic representation and good governance.
