Residents of the Ifon Orolu Community in Osun State took to the Streets on Tuesday in a peaceful Protest against the Alleged plans by the Nigerian Army to use their Land for a Project without seeking their Input.
Led by Chief Babatunde Oyetunji, the regent and Eesa of Ifon, the Demonstrators expressed their Concerns over Military Personnel visiting a Parcel of Land belonging to Ifon Orolu, apparently in Preparation for a proposed Project in the Area.
They claimed that
This action had been taken without any Consultation or Engagement with the Community.
With Banners carrying messages like ‘Lagbaja don’t cause Crises in Orolu/Irepodun community,’ ‘Nigerian Army is for the whole Nation, not for a Community,’ ‘Federal Government should caution Lagbaja,’ and ‘Tinubu, call Lagbaja to order,’ the Protesters Clarified that they were not opposed to the Implementation of Developmental Projects in their Vicinity.
Their main Demand was that any Project planned for their Land should first receive the Community’s approval and that the Project should bear the name of Ifon, reflecting its location on their Land.
