Announced a Postponement of the Human Papillomavirus Vaccine (HPV) Campaign, originally scheduled to Commence today, due to Logistical reasons provided by the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH).
The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Health in Lagos, Prof. Akin Abayomi, over the Weekend.
Prof. Abayomi expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by the Postponement and assured the public that a new date for the Campaign would be Communicated as soon as it is Determined.
Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is a Sexually Transmitted Disease that can lead to Cervical Cancer and other related conditions, including Skin and vaginal warts.
Early Vaccination against HPV is crucial in Preventing cervical cancer and related diseases, especially given that a significant percentage of Women Initiate sexual activity at a young age, Increasing their risk of HPV Infection.
The introduction of the HPV Vaccine for girls aged 9 to 14 in Nigeria aims to Potentially prevent 71,000 deaths annually.
Administering the HPV Vaccine at an early age is essential for Maximum protection.
The primary goal of the Vaccination Campaign is to provide Eligible girls with the Injectable HPV Vaccine to Safeguard against Cervical Cancer.
Vaccination Centers have been Designated in Various locations, including schools, churches, mosques, Primary health centers, hospitals, outreach posts, markets, gated estates, and other Community locations.
The Statement also highlighted that Routine Immunization Services will continue to be available at Primary Healthcare Centers throughout the State.
It emphasized that the HPV Vaccine is Safe, effective, and free, Ultimately saving lives.
