At least 43 people were reportedly kidnapped by gunmen in Kakidawa, Gidan Goga district, Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

According to eyewitness accounts, the attack occurred in the early hours of Sunday, around 2 a.m., when heavily armed men stormed the village, firing sporadically. The gunfire sent residents fleeing into nearby bushes, while the assailants conducted a house-to-house search, abducting women and children who could not escape.

Community leaders reported that, as of now, the kidnappers have not contacted the victims’ families to demand ransom.

When contacted, Yazid Abubakar, the Zamfara State Police spokesperson, said he had not yet been briefed on the incident.

This abduction adds to the alarming rise in kidnapping-for-ransom cases in Nigeria’s northern region, where insecurity continues to affect communities.
